Our Outreaches

"A couple of years ago, my family was making plans to visit our favorite island in the whole world: Isla Mujeres. We were going on a scuba trip with some friends of ours. Well, while we were scouring the internet for best restaurants and dive sites, my wife stumbled upon the Facebook page for 'The People's Ministry'. This was a local ministry on the island that helped some of the poorest on the island.
We decided to take a day off of scuba diving, buy some groceries, and deliver to a school in La Curve. We were told that these were underprivileged kids and we thought it would be a great idea for our kids to participate. When we got there, the children were all smiles and such a blessing despite their conditions. We had brought some little giveaways, school supplies, crayons, and such which we got to give away. Our children really were blessed by this opportunity to distribute these items which left a lasting impression even to today. It was extremely humbling for my family especially my children. They had never seen such poverty or people in need and just for a few moments everyone in our family got the experience such richness of our Lord Jesus. We got to experience that bond between the people of God regardless of country, language, or status. It was amazing.
During our visit, a thought entered my head. I worked closely with some uniform manufacturers back home and thought perhaps there may be some opportunities to share. I reached out to my contacts and, sure enough, one of them had some old unsold clothes that they wanted to donate. They sent one shipment of clothes to Jeff and Penney which made it to the hands of the needy in Isla. A few months later, they asked if we could use more! "Of course" I said! I had no idea what was coming. 19 boxes of a variety of clothes were shipped to the Pias family where they separated and began working on logistics to get the clothes to the island as there really is no shipping option. My wife and I decided to make a quick run to the island with 4 suitcases full of clothes and got to be a part of handing them out again. Again, we had donated money to various organizations for the needy, but there's just something about being there. Like I said, it feels more like family and not so much charity. Titus 3:14 says "Our people must learn to do good by meeting the urgent needs of others; then they will not be unproductive". These are basic needs. This ministry also provides mattresses and bedding for those sleeping on the floor. The People's Ministry has been such a blessing to us in giving us the opportunity to give directly and share what God has given us. We aren't finished by a long shot! We may end up retiring on the island someday and sharing in this good work! To God by the glory! "
